Lines to the Gods: Nazca Geoglyphs

Dr. Johny Isla, Director, Nazca Lines Project, Ministry of Culture, Peru

“Was it aliens?”

Created by the ancient Nazca culture in South America, and depicting plants, animals, and geometric shapes, the 2,000-year-old Nazca Lines can only be fully appreciated when viewed from the air given their massive size, lending an air of mystery to them. Despite being studied for over 80 years, the geoglyphs—which were designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994—are still a mystery to researchers.  How could they have been built, and why?

Now, new knowledge obtained by the technology Lidar is beginning to reveal the secrets of the Nazca.  On October 5, Houstonians and people around the world will have the opportunity to learn the story of the fabled Nazca lines and the newest theories about the reason for their construction at a talk featuring Dr. Johny Isla, Director of the Nazca Lines Project with the Peruvian Ministry of Culture.

In partnership with the Houston Museum of Natural Science.

Generously Sponsored by the Consul General of Peru in Houston, The Honorable Rodolfo Coronado Molina
