Deep in the forests of Ecuador, the earliest evidence for cacao cultivation has been found, taking place much earlier than that of Central America. It was in upper Amazonian region that a chocolate beer was brewed, differing greatly from the bitter frothy drinks favored by the Maya and the Aztecs.
