Feasting Like a Pharaoh
Dr. Salima Ikram
We are excited to kick off our new Tiny Lecture Series with an extraordinary talk from world-renowned Egyptologist, Dr. Salima Ikram.
Dr. Salima Ikram is a professor, archaeologist, author and expert on the world of ancient Egypt. She is an authority on animal mummies. As a founder of the Animal Mummy Project at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, she has emerged as one of the leading scholars in Egyptian funerary archaeology. Another of her research interests is ancient Egyptian feasting and food—knowledge that she generously shares with us in this video.
During the video, Dr. Ikram included the fascinating factoid that Egyptians invented barbecue! She has kindly included a recipe which you can view below.
ANCIENT EGYPTIAN BBQ
Ingredients
1.5 lbs Beef
5 cloves garlic
2 tsp cumin
1 tsp salt
2 tbsp olive oil
Marinate for 3 hours in the garlic, cumin, salt, and olive oil mixture.
Cook over coals. They liked their food rare to medium rare!
