Mysterious Göbekli Tepe
Dr. Mehmet Özdoğan
Today we cannot write about Prehistoric Turkey without reference to Mehmet Özdoğan’s contributions. One of Turkey’s most preeminent archaeologists, Prof. Mehmet Özdoğan’s work at numerous sites around Turkey has enlarged our view of the Neolithic world. Because of his influence, he was extended the prestigious invitation to give the keynote address at the World Economic Forum in Davos in 2016. Prof. Özdoğan’s primary focus is the emergence and expansion of early village farming economies. Mehmet Özdoğan received his doctorate in 1979 from Istanbul University and became a full professor there in 1993, chairing the Department of Prehistory from 1999 until his retirement in 2020.
